New owners of our small town grocery store - challenged from the start - have met the challenge, as evidenced by what happened today.
In fact, today's visit there was over the top! They obviously believe that full, willing, over-the-top service will sustain their business.
After what happened this afternoon, as well as before, I agree.
I'm convinced that excellent service is the key to business success.
Here's why -
A week of snow and bitter cold prevented shopping for a week, so finally today I trudged through the snow; scraped off enough white stuff to see the road, then headed for the store in a car carrying two feet of snow on top.
The owner saw me drive up and rushed out to help me navigate the slippery, snowy walk from car to door.
Once inside, he quickly pushed a cart to me so I could begin without the frustration of untangling one cart from all others.
As I made the rounds about the isles, he'd ask if I needed help finding anything.
Then finally, as I checked out, the owner took my purchases to the car, surveyed its heavy snow cover, enlisted a couple of helpers & the three of them cleared the last of the snow from my car.
Then came his parting shot as I entered the vehicle - "Call me if you need snow removed from your car at home".
I'm not the only customer for whom their service is over-the-top.
It's the same with everyone who walks into their store.
Service! It's the key to business success.
