There's a huge chirping chorus outside, transforming a snowy Saturday's quiet to sweet concert.
They'd finally found the pine cones slathered with bird-food goo! I'd placed them on an outside window ledge a couple of days ago.
...and nothing! - not a peep for TWO whole days - until now.
(My good old bird-feeder had met its depise, thanks to greedy squirrels, so for now the window ledge must do.)
Actually the bird's delayed concert is more than enough reward for the effort it took to search web for just the right recipe for slathering pine cones to a bird's satisfaction and then stewing the cornmeal & oat mass with honey, peanut butter, and water.
When cool, it's solid enough to stick to a pine cone.
Luckily I picked up the big pine cones last summer for home decor.
...perfect for this purpose.
The website where I found this mush claimed that 'the birds will love it!'.
After two quiet days I had doubts. Almost threw away the extra.
But, just when you think all is lost...!!!
They're still chirping as they dine.
Soon they'll need a refill.
