SNOWMOBILERS - READY TO ZOOM -

Hundreds of them call our northern village asking 'how much snow?'
They seem eager to escape cities, head for wilderness snow trails and get away from it all.
Curiously, many of them speed so fast through the wilderness, they miss the peace and beauty so easily found.
They can't seem to stop the race as they fly from one wilderness village to another, stopping only for gas and a beer or two. Then off they go, with motors roaring a noisy din all the way through town.
Even summertime is more peaceful around here. Swimmers, sailors and fishermen tend to be more quiet, enjoying each moment away from it all.

COULD HILLARY WIN IN 2008 ??

Mrs. Clinton is currently going through all the preliminaries of surveying her chances to become the next President of the United States.
Can you imagine Bill Clinton as the President's spouse living in the White House, playing second fiddle?

THERE'S' NO BUSINESS LIKE SNOW BUSINESS -

The overwhelming temptation to stay indoors, almost won the debate between my desire to cocoon and the challenge of facing a cold bluster outside - SNOW - lots of it, and still falling.
...The challenge won.
...threw on heavy coat, ear warmers, wooly hat, scarf and gloves.
...plodded through six or so inches of snow to car...grabbed the scrapper/brush...removed the white stuff from windows & hood
...warmed the car with heater blasting...and took off for a little needless shopping.
The few others I met around town seemed as upbeat as I did, by the refreshing exercise of just getting outside... and moving... in brisk snowy air.
Another brave soul I met along the way, said, grinning, "If we don't keep moving, we die!"

Mind/Body medicine - quackery & folk belief, or is there truth to it?

Mind, Body medicine, is considered a folk belief or quackery in the science community. Now, evidence shows that there is, indeed, a scientific basis for linking emotional or behavioral phenomena and physical health.
Studies show that those who suffer cancer, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular disease, fair better with strong social support from family or friends.
Why is this?
A researcher finds that there is cross-talk in both directions between the brain and the nervous system.
"People believe in these connections, but what's just emerging is the (biological) evidence," says Susan Lutgendorf, professor of psychology at the University of Iowa.

"Activated immune cells send signals to the brain - signals which we call sickness behavior including fatigue, lethargy, depression, and the disinclination to eat or drink.
"These behaviors serve an important adaptive service - they make you take care of yourself instead of going out dancing."
